FAQs
People have Questions and here are some of the most common ones that we get asked.
Where can I find you?
The Meeting spot for the tour is very easy to find. You will find your tour guide waiting outside the front steps of St Giles Cathedral in West Parliament Square with a Black and White umbrella with the Eerie Earth Tours logo on.
Can I bring my dog on the tour?
Of course you can! All of the tours take place entirely outside so your dogs are most welcome, however it is the owners responsibility to ensure that any mess is cleaned up.
Can I drink alcohol on the tour?
No! Consumption of Alcohol and other substances is strictly forbidden on an Eerie Earth Tour. If a guest is found to be under the influence then you will be asked to leave and a refund will not be issued.
How much walking is there really?
Edinburgh is built on volcanic rock and the High Street, or Royal Mile is on the spine of a volcanic ridge, so there are a lot of hills and stairs. We do our best to make our tours as accessible as we can for our guests but unfortunately that can't always be possible with the cobbles and with the hills. Please take that into consideration when booking a tour with us. so there is a fair bit of walking, but we do stop regularly as your guide tells you stories.
How dark do the stories get?
The history of Edinburgh is vast and at times, incredibly dark. There are topics which some visitors may find a bit disturbing as we discuss torture, executions, murders, cannibalism and much more. Our guide is a storyteller and is very descriptive and if you do not like the descriptions of gore then this may not be the tour for you. However if you let the tour guide know that you may feel uncomfortable with some of the subject matters, then we will be more than happy to accommodate and adjust the stories accordingly.
Do you have an age limit for the tour?
Yes! This tour is not suitable for anyone under the age of 12. Due to the nature of the tour and and the topics discussed, Anyone under the age of 18 needs to have an adult with them to come on the tour. Please contact us if you have any queries regarding this and we will be happy to assist.
Do you accept Tips?
Yes! Tips are never expected by always appreciated. If you would like to leave a tip for your guide you can do so at the end of the tour with either cash or card or via PayPal.
Where does the tour end?
The tour will end inside Greyfriars Kirkyard on Candlemaker Row. If you need directions to get back to your hotel or recommendations for what to do after the tour, the please do not hesitate to ask your guide and they will more than happy to help.
What happens if I miss the tour?
These things happen and sometimes are totally unavoidable, if you are able to get in contact with us prior to the tour informing the guide that you will not be able to attend, then a refund MAY be issued. However if there is no communication and you do not turn up for the tour, a refund will NOT be issued.
Will We See A Ghost?
The honest answer to this is, it is very unlikely, however we have had some guests experience some paranormal activity on this tour, so it does happen, however we cannot guarantee that it will. While Edinburgh is one of the most haunted cities in the world, with ghost stories around every corner, it doesn't mean they will always be present in the city. So please do not come on this tour expecting something to happen.
Will you show us the Harry Potter graves in Greyfriars.
Short answer is no. This tour, while we visit some areas used as inspiration for the books, has nothing to do with Harry Potter so we will not be showing you the Harry Potter Graves in Greyfriars. If you wish to see the graves then please speak to your guide and they will be happy to direct you to them, but will not take you there.
Do you go underground?
No! Eerie Earth Tours does not have access to the underground vaults as they are privately owned by other companies, nor do we go down Mary King's Close, but your guide will be more than happy to recommend the best companies to be able to experience the underground areas of Edinburgh, but you will not see them on this tour.
